Education

 Future of our Nation

Our children are our greatest investment. When we ensure our youth receive a quality education, we secure our Nation's future.

As a parent who has sat on school boards and become involved in my own children's education, I know that it truly takes support from all fronts to educate. The classroom isn't the place where learning begins and ends. Parents must take an active role in their child's education. Without expanding the child's learning environment into the home, we further alienate ourselves from the districts that surpass state and national education standards.

Our high school graduation rate is nearly 20 percentage points below the national average. I'm not interested in placing blame on this statistic. My goal is to help foster a higher level of drive, dedication and character in our future generations. I believe we can achieve this goal through the development and maintenance of education programs that will encourage students and educators through reward-based systems.

 Iron Sharpens Iron

Healthy competition sharpens all who want to enhance their skills. When our teachers are at the pinnacle of their profession, they prevail personally. More importantly, our youth benefit.

When parents and students take an active role in their education, this gives teachers the ability to perform their duties without distraction. Teachers should not be spending more time policing their classrooms than teaching their students. We cannot, and should not reward poor behaviors or poor performance of students or teachers.

As your Congressman, I will fight to improve education here in the 51st Congressional District.
